Ecommerce website development cost in India
Most ecommerce websites in India cost between ₹35,000 and ₹95,000. That is the range we quote, and it covers a working shop on Shopify or WooCommerce with your products loaded, payments connected and delivery rules configured.
The number moves for four reasons, and knowing which one applies to you is worth more than any quote.
What sets the floor
Below about ₹40,000, what is generally being sold is a theme with your logo dropped into it and your products left for you to load. That is a real option and sometimes the right one, but it is a different product from a built shop, and the difference shows up later as your own weekends.
Above roughly ₹95,000 you are paying for one of three things: design drawn for you rather than adapted from a theme, a catalogue large enough that loading it is a project of its own, or a connection to software you already run such as inventory or accounting.
The shop is the cheap half
This is the part almost every first-time buyer gets wrong, and it is why two quotes for the same site can differ threefold.
Installing the platform and making it look right is a known job. What is not is the catalogue: photographing products, writing descriptions that are not the manufacturer's copy, setting variants and sizes, configuring delivery charges by weight and pincode, and getting tax right.
For a hundred products that work can exceed the build itself. Any quote worth comparing says plainly who is doing it. If it does not, that silence is the quote.
Shopify or WooCommerce
WooCommerce is cheaper to build and more expensive to keep. It is free software on hosting you control, so the build cost is lower, but somebody has to own updates, security, and the plugin that breaks after one of them.
Shopify costs from roughly ₹1,500 a month and absorbs all of that. For a first shop under a few hundred products it usually costs less across three years, once you count the hours nobody budgets for.
We build both and have no stake in which you pick. The decision is about who maintains it, not about the software.
What moves the number, in rupees
These are the actual figures behind our cost estimator, which shows the arithmetic rather than a single number:
- The shop itself: ₹35,000 to ₹95,000.
- Design drawn for you rather than adapted: adds ₹20,000 to ₹55,000.
- We write the content: adds ₹15,000 to ₹40,000.
- A logo or full brand identity: adds ₹6,000 to ₹35,000.
Ongoing, budget for the platform, a payment gateway taking roughly 2 per cent of each transaction, and somebody maintaining the thing. A shop is not a project that finishes.
What we will tell you not to buy
If you have not sold the product yet, do not start with a shop. Sell through a marketplace or Instagram, find out what actually moves, then build. The catalogue work is the expensive part, and doing it twice costs more than waiting three months.
Also worth refusing: a custom-built checkout. Payment flows are solved, regulated and boring, and rebuilding one is a way to spend a lakh reproducing what Shopify gives you free.
If you want the number for your own shop, the estimator asks six questions and shows the working, with no email required. If you would rather describe it to a person, tell us what you are selling.
Questions people also ask
For most Indian businesses, ₹35,000 to ₹95,000 covers a working shop on Shopify or WooCommerce with products, payments and delivery rules configured. Below ₹35,000 you are usually buying a theme with your logo dropped in. Above ₹95,000 you are paying for custom design, a large catalogue, or integration with software you already run.
Because the shop is the cheap half. Two quotes for the same site can differ by a factor of three depending on who loads the products, who writes the descriptions, who shoots the photographs, and whether delivery charges and tax rules are configured properly or left at defaults. Ask any quote to say who does those four things.
WooCommerce is cheaper to build and more expensive to keep. Shopify costs more monthly, from roughly ₹1,500 a month upward, but absorbs hosting, security and updates. For a first shop under a few hundred products, Shopify usually costs less across three years once somebody has to maintain the WooCommerce install.
Sell on a marketplace or through Instagram first and validate that people buy. A shop is worth building once you know what sells, because the catalogue work is the expensive part and doing it twice costs more than waiting.
